ABSTRACT:

This research brief focuses on opportunity stratification, or differential access to opportunities to take advanced coursework and receive its many benefits in mathematics education. Research suggests students in rigorous compared to basic courses experience different treatment and teaching. Here, I address the scholarly research addressing the inequities and how efforts between different stakeholders that provide hope for a more equitable future in mathematics education by solving the opportunity stratification that many students face. Leaders, teachers, and policymakers can collaborate to close these gaps and provide inclusive high-quality mathematics education for all students.
