ABSTRACT:

The objective of this paper is to determine the areas that hempcrete, a biocomposite building material, struggles in when it comes to residential construction use. Previously, there was significant research into the physical properties of hempcrete and its value as a construction material, but many of these studies did not include input from an active construction professional. Interviews were done with professional contractors and construction project managers to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using hempcrete in the construction of homes in Houston, Texas. Results showed that hempcrete suffers most from its lack of availability and restricted access, which fell into proximity-related issues. Thus, it was concluded that until solutions are made to resolve these issues, hempcrete will continue to experience a bottleneck in residential construction use.
